DCAT's Cozy Lunar Blankets

We are happy to carry DCAT's beautiful multicolored heirloom blankets.  DCAT has been making these Lunar blankets for happy friends, family, and clients for 20 years.  DCAT is an artist, and her color themes are inspired from various events, areas of the country, or from sweet memories:  Tibet, Mexico, Oregon in the Winter, Laguna Ocean, her mom's favorite colors.  The theme batch colors vary some from batch to batch, as they are all made from hand-tied Materials: yarns, ribbons, threads, sequins, eyelash - whatever she finds whenever she travels!  No two blankets are ever alike.

They are amazing wedding presents, because they will last a lifetime if cared for properly and if well-loved!  Hand-tied infant blankets are available as well.  Mitchell has sold them as warm slipcovers for chairs (Mik's Retro Lime is shown thrown over the Little Rambler, which is loveseat sized, right.)

The blankets are made of 9, 12, 16, 20 or 25 squares; fringe (if used) is usually only placed on two sides so that you can snuggle down into the blanket without having fringe tickle your nose!  The hand-ties are all on the back side of the blanket (this becomes the kitty-snuggle side); the top side of the blanket has double-tassel ties in all square corners.

For available color ways, click here.  For larger blankets, or for custom orders beyond what is in stock, go to either Custom Cool tones or Custom Warm tones.  DCAT is also available to create a color palette from a painting or a number of colors in a fabric.  If you don't see a colorway you like, ask!  (Download time is about 60 seconds, but you have good color thumbnails to enlarge!!)

The Powell's live with two blankets at least fifteen years old, and in the last few years have washed them about four times/year, and they still look great!

Care and Feeding

Dry cleaning, of course, is always a safe bet for items that have multiple materials.

Some of our blankets can take VERY gentle washing.  No trips to the Laundromat, and if you have a very old machine washing is not a good idea.  However, if you have a newer machine that has an extra delicate cycle, AND IF WE TELL YOU THAT THE PARTICULAR BLANKET YOU ORDERED IS SAFE TO WASH, then you may machine-wash your blanket on the ahnd-wash cycle.  COLD WATER.  Dry as suggested below, or hang over 1-inch thick (or more) rod over a tub to dry in a well ventilated room.

Hand washing is hard on you, as the blankets are heavy when wet.  I have washed a very delicate blanket in the tub, and then let it sit overnight to drain.  I then squeezed it in multiple towels to remove more water, and set it outside on a sheet, in shade, on a warm day to air dry.  When it had mostly dried, it was hung over a rod.

NEVER NEVER NEVER MACHINE DRY!!

ABOUT SOAP:  The very best soap to use is a biodegradable organic soap, not Woolite®, and no soap that has bleach that says "safe for colors".
